Fort Sumter was the first thing that started off the whole war. Fort Sumter was located in Charleston, south Carolina. Fort Sumter was a Northern fort in the middle of southern territory. The South didn't like that one bit. The South were angry at the North being there, so they refused any supply ships into the fort. The North needed guns, ammo, and food, but they couldn't get any of it. The South ordered the Northern troops to get out of the fort, but the North refused. The South got even more angered, and they bombed the fort for 34 hours straight. After the 34 hours the North surrendered. The North troops were let go. The South were the first to fire, and the war has now begun. This was 1861.
